Ben,
After a fresh installation of Windows 98SE, the sequence of drivers is as follows.
1. Motherboard Chipset Drivers (This allows the hardware on the board to be properly identified, thus making the hardware indentification easier for 98SE).
2. Video Card Drivers.
3. Monitor
4. Soundcard.
5. Other Periphials that need installing, scanner, printer...ect.
