A lot has been happening since we last did the Palm OS Lifestyles show. In fact, it's been two months, and there's a LOT to talk about.


Palm OS / PalmSource News
LG Electronics Licensees Palm OS
- No date or details regarding products
- Probably expect something next year at the earliest
- LG Electronics is the world leader in CDMA and GSM phone manufacturing

PalmSource Shifting All Efforts to Linux Development
- CEO Patrick McVeigh also announced the company is shifting all engineering efforts on the future Linux based versions of the Palm OS. "We are delaying all development of products not directly related to this."
- Low end and feature phones expected by summer of 2006 and smartphones later that year as well.

PalmSource Posts Profit, Cuts Jobs
- Laid off approximately 16 percent of it's workforce.
- Over half of the head count reductions were middle and senior management positions, including three senior vice presidents.
- This includes Michael Mace, Chris Dunphy and Gabi Schlinder


Tapwave News
Tapwave Appears To Be Out Of Business
- We knew the Zodiac was going to be discontinued, however we expected to see an OEM product.
- From Tapwave's Senior VP of Marketing, Byron Connell's comments, it looks like the company is out of business.
- Still one of the best Palm OS devices out there. Look for discounts soon!

pa1m0ne Is Now Palm, Inc. Again
- pa1m0ne bought the name back for $30 Million dollars.
- PalmSource will have to change it's name over the 4 years.

[Rumor] - 6GB LifeDrive Coming Soon?
- The Spanish branch of Hitachi, the maker of the 4 GB microdrive in the LifeDrive, put out a press release today touting its 6 GB version.

[RUMOR]The Tungsten X or Tungsten XX?
- Palm OS 5.4.9
- 312MHz processor
- 320 x 480 pixel display
- Bluetooth 1.2
- Built-in 802.11b
- SDIO expansion card slot

Palm Has Secret Third Business
- Jeff Hawkins did an interview with the Portland Business Jornal
- He talked about the history of Palm and what he is currently working on.
- He stated that Palm currently has three business: 1)the PDA market 2)the smartphone market and 3)a secretive third business involving the next major generation of mobile computing.
- Many think that he was referring to the LifeDrive since the interview was conducted before it's release to the public.

[RUMOR]Treo 700 On The Horizon?
- 1.3 megapixel digital camera with 8x zoom
- CDMA EVDO high speed data support
- 320x320 pixel screen.

Palm, Inc. Releasing A Treo With Windows Mobile As The OS?
- Rumored to be the Treo 670
- Palm CFO talks about it
- I think it's real and I think we'll see it during Palm's normal Fall release.


State Of The Palm OS Landscape
Shipments of Handhelds Continue to Climb
- 3.6 million units were shipped
- 32% percent increase from the same period last year
- All according to market-research company Gartner, Inc.

Nokia Entering The PDA Business?
- Nokia 770 Internet Tablet
- Expected end of this year
- High-resolution (800x480) touch screen with up to 65,536 colors
- Running Linux Internet Tablet 2005 software edition
- NOT a phone

- KMaps is J2ME based Mobile Location Services Platform, built on the top of Google Maps.
- Requires the WebSphere Java Virtual Environment available from Palm.
- The JVM currently supports the Treo 600 and Treo 650 smartphones, Tungsten C, Tungsten T3, Tungsten E, Tungsten T5 and Zire 72 handhelds.
- KMaps is free.

- Java based application it requires the WebSphere Java Virtual Environment available from Palm.
