Removable devices have greatly enhanced the resources available to PCs. However, removing them can also render Windows unstable if not removed properly. When a USB device, notebook PC Card, or other removable device is connected to a PC, an Unplug Or Eject Hardware icon usually appears in the Desktop System Tray. Double-click the icon, select the device you wish to remove, and click Stop. In the resulting Stop A Hardware Device window, highlight the device and click OK. A Safe To Remove Hardware window will appear telling you the device can now be safely removed from the system. Remove the device, close the Unplug And Eject Hardware window, and Windows should continue undisturbed and stable.
